Kevin graduated from Nipissing University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in Accounting and joined Vaive and Associates in early 2019 as the Assurance Manager.
Throughout his post secondary career Kevin completed bookkeeping for small businesses, worked as a financial advisor for TD Canada Trust, and taught online courses in business, accounting and finance.
While working towards his professional designation, Kevin was a senior accountant at an international accounting firm where he performed and supervised assurance engagements for clients in many different industries, with a focus on not-for-profits, public sector, and construction. After several years in that capacity, Kevin took on the role of Regional Controller – North America for an international publicly traded drilling and exploration company. His experience in both the public and private sector enable him to provide clients the skill set to perform efficient assurance engagements and advise on complicated accounting and finance matters, as well as forecasting cash flows and long-term planning.
In addition to his professional experience, Kevin has served in the capacity of director on several not-for- profit organizations in Northern Ontario, and currently acts as the Treasurer for a Not-for-Profit in the Ottawa area.

Shelby moved to Ottawa in 2020 following her studies in International Development at the University of Guelph. She joined Vaive and Associates in 2021 on a temporary contract but has since joined the team full time. With majority of her experience coming from the food and beverage industry, Shelby feels passionately about working in fast paced team-based operations. Her goal is to always provide quality support for both clients and colleagues. She enjoys being the person people can lean on and is always keen to seek out new opportunities to grow.
In her spare time, Shelby enjoys spending time as much time outside as possible with friends and family as well as planning her next backpacking trip.
SHELBY STRAECHE
OFFICE MANAGER
Shelby moved to Ottawa in 2020 following her studies in International Development at the University of Guelph. She joined Vaive and Associates in 2021 on a temporary contract but has since joined the team full time. With majority of her experience coming from the food and beverage industry, Shelby feels passionately about working in fast paced team-based operations. Her goal is to always provide quality support for both clients and colleagues. She enjoys being the person people can lean on and is always keen to seek out new opportunities to grow.
In her spare time, Shelby enjoys spending time as much time outside as possible with friends and family as well as planning her next backpacking trip.
NATALIE VERBERK
BOOKKEEPER
Natalie has five years of bookkeeping experience in the construction industry. She loves organizing and making processes more efficient. She enjoys learning and regularly takes courses to expand her knowledge. She also enjoys learning new languages and travelling.
Her greatest accomplishment is her two children, who she loves to spend her free time with.
Outside of the office, Natalie likes to cross country ski, cycle, and play hockey.

Matt graduated from the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting. He first started working with the firm in 2020 as a co-op student and became a full-time employee in 2021. He primarily works on preparing year-end engagements and preparing personal tax returns. Matt is always eager to provide quality service to the firm’s clients and assist his colleagues whenever possible.
Currently, Matt is working toward his CPA designation through the CPA Ontario program. In his spare time, Matt enjoys playing hockey, swinging clubs at the golf course, practicing his chess, or hanging out with his friends.

Khalil will be pursuing his CPA designation upon graduation and is excited for the challenges that it will bring.
