John achieved his Chartered Professional Accountant designation in 1992. He has over 30 years of experience working at national and regional tax and accounting firms in Canada. John’s reputation stems from providing high quality assurance engagements and business advisory services to owner-managed entities.

Over his career, John has been actively involved with CPA Ontario and other charitable organizations. He currently is the Treasurer of the Bruyere Hospital Foundation, one of the largest sub-acute care hospitals in Canada.

Rolland Vaive obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1993 and founded the firm in 2003. Rolland’s vision for Vaive and Associates is to be a firm that offers excellent advice, deliver the highest level of service and is recognized as trusted advisors to all of the firm’s clients.

In addition to his role as the firm’s Managing Partner, Rolland leads the Vaive and Associates income tax practice. Rolland has practiced Canadian Taxation for 25 years and regularly advises on matters of corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, estate planning and matters affecting high net worth individuals. Rolland has completed the CPA Canada In-Depth tax programme, as well as the specialized courses on Corporate Reorganizations, Wealth Preservation and Advanced Tax Issues for the Owner-Managed Business. Rolland is also certified as a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) and is a Certified Public Accountant (Illinois).

Rolland previously served as a president of the Ottawa Chartered Accountant’s Association and was a part time professor at University of Ottawa. In his spare time, Rolland enjoys travelling, swinging golf clubs and sampling craft beer.

Rob obtained his designation in 1983 and was a partner for seventeen years with Moffatt LeBel Chartered Accountants before joining Vaive and Associates. His practice has been focused in the areas of accounting, tax preparation, planning and advice to small business owners, professionals, and individuals.

Over his career, Rob has served on various volunteer boards, including the National Capital Region YMCA-YWCA from 1989 to 2004, during which time he was Board Chair for a three-year term from 1999 to 2002.

Lucie started her career in public accounting in 1999 when she joined Moffatt LeBel Chartered Accountants LLP, and has been a senior staff member with Vaive and Associates Professional Corporation since the firm merged in 2017.

Lucie joined the work force more than 35 years ago in the private field working in both non-profit and profit oriented industries. In the non-profit sector she worked for an Association and in profit oriented industries she has worked with consulting firms, the auto industry, and the sales industry.

Having the natural ability to organize, analyze, and reconcile accounts it was easy for her to fully integrate into a company’s finance department. She has stepped in on new startups, as a replacement for employees on leave, and also in lending a hand to overcome staff shortages.

She began working toward her accounting designation while holding down a full time position, and obtained her CGA designation in 2002 followed by her CPA designation in 2014 when the provincial accounting bodies merged.

Lucie is dedicated to providing a service tailored to her clients’ needs, be it personal tax, preparation of an estate return, or a corporation’s year end, including financial statements and corporate tax returns. Lucie uses her skills and knowledge as well as the pool of expertise in the firm to provide excellent service to all clients. Lucie’s favorite pastime is reading mysteries; she also likes to play society games with family and friends. Her dog Zoe, a chocolate lab, also keeps her busy.

Justine joined Vaive and Associates in 2013 as an administrative assistant while completing her degree at the University of Ottawa. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics in June 2017. Justine also holds a Culinary Management Diploma from Algonquin College and a Diplôme de Pâtisserie from Le Cordon Bleu. Justine ensures the smooth operation of the firm by coordinating all administrative tasks. She believes in the importance of every last detail, and maintains high standards in her approach to client service. Outside of the office, Justine enjoys going to the gym, baking for friends, and spending time with her family and cat, Pumpernickel.

Laurie has more than 25 years of accounting experience in both corporate and public accountant roles. In 1999, she leveraged her years as a corporate controller to transition to public accounting. Laurie has been with Vaive and Associates for more than a decade and oversees the majority of the firm’s owner-managed, small business corporate year-end engagements. Through her experience and tenure, she has developed close working relationships with many of the firm’s clients, and understands both their tax and accounting issues, as well as their overall goals.

Laurie has completed the CPA Canada In-Depth tax programme and the GST/HST In-Depth Tax programme. She can assist with compliance and CRA audit support, as well as cross border HST issues, and HST issues associated with the purchase and sale of a business or real property.

Having been on both sides of the accounting equation, Laurie can help you see the opportunities, realize the benefits, and get the value that a professional firm provides through assistance with compliance, business advisory services, and corporate and personal tax planning.

Outside of the office, Laurie spends much of her time doing CrossFit and planning her next Disney vacation.

ANDREW PAYEUR

Andrew graduated from the Carleton University Sprott School of Business in 2012 with a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in accounting. He joined the firm as a Staff Accountant in 2013 while concurrently working through the CGA program of studies in the pursuit of his accounting designation. In September 2015, he successfully completed the CGA program, earning his CGA designation as well as the CPA designation through the unification of the provincial accounting bodies.

Andrew has experience working on all types of corporate year-end engagements and tax returns. He is currently a registered Student in the CBV Institute Program of Studies in the hopes of achieving the Chartered Business Valuator designation. He is committed to delivering high quality and thorough services to the firm’s clients. Andrew and his wife have their hands full with two young children and a very energetic Australian Shepherd. He is an avid sports fan and doesn’t miss a Denver Broncos game.

Matt is a graduate of the Telfer School of Business at the University of Ottawa. He started with the firm as a co-op student in 2015 and joined as a full-time employee in 2018. He received his CPA designation in December 2021 and will be enrolling in CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Program this fall.

Matt focuses on all things tax and is particularly interested in trust and estate planning. He is committed to providing you with the excellent service that you deserve. In his spare time, Matt enjoys attending various sporting events whether it’s football, hockey, or baseball. He hopes to one day visit all the major league ballparks across North America.

Gary has a broad range of experience, primarily working with owner managed businesses, and as a senior member of the Vaive and Associates Professional Corporation team serves a variety of corporate clients with preparation of financial statements, tax returns, and business advisory services.

He is also experienced and knowledgeable in the preparation of personal and estate tax returns.

Quintin graduated from McMaster University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He is a member of CPA Canada and CPA Ontario and obtained his CPA in 2021. Quintin has also completed CPA Canada’s 3-year In-Depth Tax course, which is considered the cornerstone of education for professionals specializing in income tax in Canada.

Quintin joined the Vaive and Associates team in February 2018, and has a wide variety of income tax experience including corporate, personal and estate tax returns, tax planning, reorganizations, and CRA audits and objections. As part of the tax team Quintin aims to meet the tax needs of clients by offering personalized services and quality advice.

Quintin is a major hockey fan and spends his time outside of the office watching the Senators and working on his fantasy hockey team. When he is not watching hockey Quintin can be found with his young family camping or fishing during the summer and snowboarding in the winter.

Kevin graduated from Nipissing University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in Accounting and joined Vaive and Associates in early 2019 as the Assurance Manager.

Throughout his post secondary career Kevin completed bookkeeping for small businesses, worked as a financial advisor for TD Canada Trust, and taught online courses in business, accounting and finance.

While working towards his professional designation, Kevin was a senior accountant at an international accounting firm where he performed and supervised assurance engagements for clients in many different industries, with a focus on not-for-profits, public sector, and construction. After several years in that capacity, Kevin took on the role of Regional Controller – North America for an international publicly traded drilling and exploration company. His experience in both the public and private sector enable him to provide clients the skill set to perform efficient assurance engagements and advise on complicated accounting and finance matters, as well as forecasting cash flows and long-term planning.

In addition to his professional experience, Kevin has served in the capacity of director on several not-for- profit organizations in Northern Ontario, and currently acts as the Treasurer for a Not-for-Profit in the Ottawa area.

Outside of work he likes to spend time with his family, friends and dog. He also enjoys biking, snowboarding and golfing.
